Stevens Square Community Organization was made aware on November 1 that the City of Minneapolis has begun the process of revoking the rental license of landlord Stephen Frenz. This is being done as a result of violations of the City’s rental license requirements. Mr. Frenz has 10 days to correct the defects or appeal this decision. We believe Mr. Frenz will appeal very quickly.
All residents of properties owned and operated by The Apartment Shop/JAS Apartments/Stephen Frenz will receive a letter from the City of Minneapolis explaining the process. The letter being sent out is informational only and does not reflect any residents need to move.
This is a very complicated process which can take over a year to complete – and the outcome is not determined just by City action. Mr. Frenz has many legal means to challenge this action.
Since many of you may have questions about the process or how it impacts you, the City is hosting two meetings to share information regarding the rental license revocation process:
Wednesday, November 16 at 6 p.m.
Whittier Park Recreation Center
425 W 26th St Minneapolis MN 55405
Monday, November 28 at 7 p.m.
Corcoran Park Recreation Center
3334 20th Ave S Minneapolis MN 55407
If this action may affect you directly, we encourage you to attend one of these informational meetings. To learn about your legal rights during this process, contact HOME Line, a legal service available to Minneapolis renters. You can reach them at 612-728-5767. You can also contact Legal Aid of Minnesota at 612-334-5970.
Stevens Square Community Organization will attempt to stay diligently informed of both the actions of the City as well as those of Mr. Frenz. While we will try to provide as much information as possible, we are not legal experts and would direct a resident to either Home Line or Legal Aid of Minnesota. Remember: NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO PANIC.
